L.D. “Bud” Stine, 91 year old Mooreland resident, died Wednesday, August 26, 2015 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 in the First Baptist Church of Mooreland with the Reverend Phillip Ludwyck officiating. Burial will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery with the United States Army providing military graveside rites. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Billings Funeral Home in Woodward and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Billings Chapel in Mooreland.

Laverle Daniel Stine was born on March 29, 1924 in Freedom, Oklahoma to Isaac Daniel and Bertha Bryan (Brankel) Stine. Bud grew up on the family farm south of Freedom and graduated from Freedom High School. He was inducted into the United States Army in 1946 and served his country during World War II. Bud was a Platoon Sergeant and was a Marksman with his rifle. He was honorably discharged after almost two years of service.

On June 25, 1949, Bud was united in marriage to Alberta Jo Ellison in Woodward, Oklahoma. They have made their home in Mooreland since that time except for the 11 years they lived in Ulysses, Kansas. Bud worked a short time for Fred Hudson’s filling station and the Mooreland Creamery before going to work at Cities Service Gas Company full-time where he retired from.

Bud was a member of the First Christian Church of Mooreland. He was instrumental in organizing the Woodward Farmers Market and he loved preparing the beans for the July 4th celebration. He was an avid gardener and a lifetime supporter of sporting events played by the kids, grandkids, and he especially loved girls fast pitch softball. Bud loved spending time with his family and friends and he will be missed by all.

He was also a member of the Junior Jaycees, a lifetime member of the VFW and at the age of 70 he earned the Order of the Arrow with the Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his wife Alberta Stine of the home; three sons, Allen L. Stine and wife Sandi, Rodney B. Stine and wife Joni, Roger W. Stine and wife Stephanie; three daughters, Barbara Jo West and husband Neil, Marilyn VanDyk, and Karin R. DeVon; one sister Bertha Mae Martin and husband Clarence; 14 grandchildren, Kent West, Chad West, Brad West; Tim Stine, Jeffrey Stine; Amber Niles; Hilary Keahey, Greg Stine, Trevor Stine; Emily Stine, Ian Stine; Derrick DeVon, Jessica Morton, Kaylee Cunningham; 14 great-grandchildren, Shawn West, Keegan West; Kaleb Cordero, Amanda Wolfe; Madeline Stine; Kaden and Nate Williams; Kelsey Morris; Brooks Stine; Jace, Jett, and Joel Morton; Emmry and Parker Cunningham; one great-great-grandchild, Gabriel Wolfe; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harry Charles Stine, Randal Stine, Lester Stine, nieces Leota Mae Stine, Clarice Bratcher, one nephew, Larry Martin and a grandson Jeremy West.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mooreland 4th of July Celebration in honor of Bud with the funeral home accepting the contributions on behalf of the family.
