Laverna M. Stevens, 86 year old Sharon, Oklahoma resident died Thursday, June 8, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 12, 2017 in the First Baptist Church of Sharon with Reverend Roy Moody officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Laverna Mae Stevens, was born November 19, 1930 on the family farm near Rosston, Oklahoma the daughter of Albert Ross and Mary Charlotte (Stinson) Lake. Laverna learned at a young age the meaning of hard work, honesty, and integrity. After graduating from Rosston High School, Laverna attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. She then went on to cosmetology school in Enid where she graduated, and received her Cosmetology License. Laverna was united in marriage to Billie B. Stevens, on November 1, 1951 in Lawton, Oklahoma where they made their home. Laverna and Billie then moved to Rosston until 1966, when they moved to Sharon, and have lived there since. Laverna worked as a Cosmetologist, as well as working for the United States Department of Agriculture.
Laverna was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sharon, where she taught Sunday school, and was active in the church choir. She enjoyed decorating, reading, cooking, and music. She loved her family and she never missed the opportunity to watch her grandsons play basketball.
She enjoyed 58 ½ wonderful years with her husband Billie, they farmed, ranched and enjoyed their family. She was their rock, their light, and their inspiration. She will be deeply missed, but her light will shine on in our hearts through her love.
Laverna is survived by her children, Mike Stevens and wife Trula of Alva; Janet Stevens of Edmond; and Pam Stevens of Sharon; two grandchildren, Bryan Stevens and wife Cayla of Sharon; Shawn Stevens and wife Dee Dee of Carmen; five great-grandchildren, Taylor Stevens; Trinity Stevens; Brynner Stevens; Carrigan Stevens; and Tacyn Stevens; sisters, Arliss Walcher and husband Bill; Donna Symes and husband Les; Vonna Miller and husband Mike; Bonnie Shaffer and husband Rod; sister-in-law, Betty Goss and husband Bill; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billie; two nieces, LaDon Symes; and Vickie Lynn Goss; two nephews, Jason Shaffer; and Bryce Shaffer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sharon with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
