Jim was a college professor at PSU back in the 60's. He was young enough he was just one of the guys. I always had a lot of respect for him. Our condolences are with the family.  Jim Barth

Sorry to hear about Jim.  Jim was my uncle and I worked for him at the farm at Panhandle A & M, plus took several of his classes.  I only attended two years at the college and what I learned pretty much carried me through Texas Tech.  I enjoyed Jim's classes as he kept everything on our level and we could actually apply everything he taught.  I have many good memories and met many good friends.  I enjoyed many good meals with Betty & Jim when Steve and Kyle were still pre-schoolers.  I was unable to stay in close contact due to his and my job demands and family situations.  I learned a lot about life, hunting and cowboying from Jim.  He was a good man and I know that he will be missed.  I send my prayers for God's peace and strength to his family.

Wayne spent a great deal of time with Mr. Shirm during his years at Panhandle State. Worked for him on the college farm and enjoyed a good friendship with him.  He will be missed by many of the young men that he guided thru their college years.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time and the days ahead.

Jim and Catherine live next door. When Devin first came to live with me, he would go to the Shirm house and visit. Jim and Catherine treated him as their own. Soon he was helping with lawn and gardening. Jim took the time to tell him stories and teach him life's lessons. Jim was a very intelligent man who read extensively. He was a great influence on Devin and for that I am very grateful. Rest in Peace, Jim.....

Just read the article on Uncle Jim and found it very interesting, informative, and certainly brought back some great memories. I remember his great laughter, telling stories, teaching me card tricks, and taking me with him to the pig barn and dairy at Goodwell. The coon hunts and bird hunts with Old Blue and the other dogs were always a high point for me as a young boy! I and glad to have known him and glad I was able to be a small part of his life when we were all younger. Blessings to Steve and Kyle and to the entire family. All my Love, Jody

Great sense of humor, aways welcoming and I learned more about the cattle business in one dinner at Jim and Kay's house then I could have learned in a college course. Got to know Jim while remodeling bathrooms at his home.
